I think one of the evidences of people having a heart, a genuine heart for justice is the ability to see injustice, so you know, they say that “the first way you participate in injustice is to choose not to see it” so I think a willingness to embrace the injustice of life and the injustice of their community, that’s one of the first fruits of a church.
“The first way you participate in injustice is to choose not to see it”
And then I would say inclusivity is another way to see fruit for justice, it’s the idea that we’re all in this together, that people belong, that people who suffer oppression or feel excluded – that they are actually welcomed in, and that the journey of justice always comes through relationship with the oppressed, it isn’t just to the oppressed, that can just lead to more oppression, kind of serving the oppressed instead of serving with the oppressed. So I’d say that those are some of the key fruits of a church that is headed toward justice work.
