Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus, between Ascension and Pentecost. What started in 2016 as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.
Over the years, a multitude of Vineyard churches have been involved in Bow Down events across the UK and Ireland as part of Thy Kingdom Come. Bow Down is an opportunity to kneel together in the middle of our communities to pray for God’s Kingdom to come in our cities and our country.
Due to the pandemic, the past couple of years have seen our Bow Down events hosted online, but we are excited to take part in person again this Pentecost!
Hosting a Bow Down event
When is Bow Down?
This year, Thy Kingdom Come is running from 26th May – 5th June. You can choose to run an event whenever works best within that time period.
What does it look like?
Bow Down events take place outdoors, around sunset, with Christians gathering in the centre of their communities (eg a town square, or city centre). After spending some time kneeling in prayer, the event is closed by standing and holding up phone torches as an act of unity and to symbolise that Jesus is the Light of the World.
What if people stop us to ask what is happening?
This is a great opportunity to let our communities know that we love them and are praying for them! You can also invite them to join in.
Are there any resources to help us?
We have created some Bow Down handouts that you can simply print off to give to those attending, or you can use our template and add your own details that are specific to your locality.
Do you have any examples?
You can read some stories of Bow Down events from previous years here.
Is it just for Vineyard churches?
No! This is for Christians everywhere. We would encourage you to speak with other local churches to see who might like to get involved as we unite as the whole body of Christ and, together, pray for God’s Kingdom to come.
Don’t forget to share any stories and photos with us at [email protected]!
