The Bible tells us to love our neighbours. But what does it look like to love our neighbours and show kindness in the middle of lockdown? Here are some of the ways that people at Winchester Vineyard Church have been loving their neighbours.
“I chat to next door’s kids over the fence to give their parents a break when they are busy preparing supper.”
“We dropped round some scones to an elderly neighbour, who shared deeply about why she usually keeps herself to herself. At the time, it was important just to listen, but now we can pray for her at home and ask Jesus to heal the hurt and rejection that began in her childhood. We’re excited for the next step with Jesus”
“I’ve put all the class teddies in the windows of my school looking out to say hello to our passing students.”
“I’ve been making sure to ring my isolating neighbour who’s in her 80s and leave some flowers on her doorstep. She rang me and was over the moon.”
“My neighbours are both doctors, and their sons have a Nanny. Last week it was her birthday. She gave us a piece of her cake and told me she felt exhausted. I quickly rustled up a card, present and a firework-like birthday candle for her to light with the kids. Small things, but ways to love and care with what I have in the house!”
