Lyrics
You are good good good good, good good good good, good good good and you love me
You are good good good good, good good good good, good good good it’s true
You are good good good good, good good good good, good good good and you love me
You are good good good good, good good good good, good good good it’s true, I love you
If I feel lost and in the dark
I know I’m in your heart
When I’m hurt and need a friend
I know you’re with me ‘til the end
Cos if I ever start to doubt
There just one thing I have to shout
Good, strong, loving, kind
Light, the love I’ll always find
Hope, help, hero King
Stronger than any thing
Wise, bright, perfect sight
Closest friend, highest height
The first, last, middle, end
Your size I cannot comprehend
And best of all you set me free
When on the cross you died for me
You’re everything in life to me
And this is what I sing
Song Story
The inspiration for You are Good, Good, Good came from a simple idea that has come to be important to me in my life. When life gets tough and things don’t go the way we think they should it’s easy to get caught up in lots of deep theology to explain what’s going on. While that sort of thinking is very important, when things got hard for me I found that what really made a difference was two simple thoughts: God is good and he loves me.
“I might not understand what God is doing right now, I might not even like it but I can trust that God is good and he loves me.”
When I’m feeling afraid or hurt or lost this is what I really need to know. I wanted to try and write a song for the kids at church which would celebrate God’s goodness and let them know that if things get hard they can always depend on our Good God’s Love.
The bridge of the song is an attempt to list as many reason as I could think of that demonstrate just how good God is … there were a lot and it turned into a bit of a game to see how many I could fit into just a few bars (it gets even more fun if you add actions to each reason?) but in the end it comes back to just one thing: God is Good and he loves me.
